Inquest into the death of Thomas Friel on 22 May 1973
The inquest touching upon the death of Thomas Friel was heard by the Coroner, Mr McCrisken, on 1 to 12 November 2021 and 18 November 2021. The Coroner delivered his findings on 1 December 2021.
Mr Friel, who was 21 years old, died on 22 May 1973 at Altnagelvin Hospital after sustaining a head injury in the early hours of 18 May 1973 in the Creggan area of Derry/Londonderry.
This inquest, the second into Mr Friel’s death, was directed by the Attorney-General for Northern Ireland in December 2013 following an application by the Friel family.
